Louisville, KY - The Chargers Softball program claimed the top spot nationally this past week when the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) released the Easton Top Team GPA earners from the 2022-23 school year. The program earned a near perfect cumulative unweighted GPA of 3.979, and in a race where teams normally edge out the competition but a hundredth or thousandth of a point, the Chargers finished almost a whole tenth above second place Rock Creek High School (3.91) out of Kansas.

In her first season at the helm, Head Coach
Brittany Scarafiotti led the program to a season of historic proportions, both on the field and in the classroom. Scarafiotti reflected on the work of the 2022-23 team saying "we have a saying -
how you do anything, is how you do everything - and our student-athletes really took that to heart last year. As we set new standards and expectations on and off the field last year with lofty goals, it was such a pleasure to watch our team chase and surpass those goals."
The successes on the field were obvious for the Chargers, as they reached the UIL postseason for the first time since 2012, advancing to their first ever Regional Quarterfinal, the only 6A fourth place district finisher in the state to do so in 2023.
In the classroom, 13 Chargers received Easton/NFCA All-America Scholar-Athlete honors, an honor bestowed upon student-athletes with a GPA above 3.5. The list of Chargers receiving this award included:
Addi Brown (Soph.),
Izzy Cornell (Sr.),
Megan Costa (Fr.),
Morgan Crandall (Sr.),
Jaelyn Estes (Sr.),
Kylie Grastly (Soph.),
Hannah Hanson (Soph.),
Marilyn Korywchak (Soph.),
Maggie Meche (Fr.),
Gabby Ramirez (Soph.),
Olivia Sullivan (Jr.),
Savanah Tatum (Fr.), and
Tessa Wilkerson (Fr.).
Scarafiotti recognized that this award reflects upon not just Charger Softball, but Central High School as a whole saying "our student-athletes could not have earned this prestigious honor without the time and care they were given from our phenomenal Central teachers. Their willingness to work patiently with our athletes, who sometimes have to miss class for competitions, is a perfect example of their support for Charger athletics and we greatly it."
Central were one of thirteen Texas schools to earn a team GPA over 3.0 in the weighted or unweighted category. The Chargers were joined on the Easton/NFCA list by El Campo, East View, Ingleside, Prosper, Whitesboro, Saginaw, O'Connor, Lake Creek, Grandview, Rouse, Incarnate Word, and Troup.
This last honor brings the 2022-23 story to a close and Scarafiotti recognized what a great ending this is saying "it felt like one last, perfect stamp on our historic season for such a special group."
