Softball Defeats Haltom 5-0, Ties Program Record For Wins In A Season In Just 15 Games

JV Picks Up 7-3 Victory To Complete Program Sweep

Fort Worth, TX - First year head coach Brittany Scarafiotti's tenure as a Charger head coach is off to a flying start as the Lady Chargers Softball program (9-5-1, 1-0) picked up their ninth win of the year in their district opener, a 5-0 victory over Haltom (2-3-1, 0-1). The win ties the Lady Chargers record for wins in a single season, nine, registered during the 2018 season.

The JV picked up a 7-3 victory of their own, maintaining a perfect 3-0 record on the year, as Central registered their third program sweep of the year.

On a night where the Lady Chargers honored their seniors, two seniors played a key role for Central.

Senior Isabella Cornell had a standout performance on the mound for the Lady Chargers, pitching her first complete game of the season, while picking up 14 strikeouts. Fellow senior Abby Baglin played a key role both offensively and defensively. Offensively, Baglin notched a key 13-pitch at bat, which eventually led to a scored run and a triple. Defensively, Baglin ended the game catching a Buffalo attempting to steal second.

Perhaps the biggest moment of the game, which could very easily be overlooked, came from junior Olivia Sullivan. Sullivan managed a 14 pitch at bat, resulting in a walk, that was a big momentum shift for the Lady Chargers and a perfect representation of the grit and resilience this Central team plays with.

Coach Scarafiotti applauded the effort put in not just against Haltom, but throughout the start of the season saying "I couldn't be more proud of the grit, energy, and determination in our team! Opening district with a big win really sets the tone for where they want to go and we are going to keep hunting for the playoffs one game at a time." Scarafiotti added "last night's win was a fun game to be at and we would like to thank ALL of our Charger Fans who filled the stands for the big win and to celebrate our Seniors."

The Lady Chargers hit the road on Friday as they take on the defending district champion Keller Indians (12-8, 1-0). First pitch is set for 7:00 PM. The Indians swept the 2022 season series against the Lady Chargers, picking up a 6-0 win on Charger Field and sneaking out a 8-6 victory in Keller.
