Fort Worth, TX -  The Lady Chargers Softball (15-12-1, 7-7) team needed a win Friday night to extend their season and they did just that, picking up the season sweep of Timber Creek (14-19, 4-10) in a 5-1 victory at Charger Field. The victory snapped a two-game losing skid for the Lady Chargers, who now finish fourth in the district, securing their first postseason birth since 2012.
Sophomore
Addi Brown picked up the win for Lady Chargers with 6 K's while
Isabella Cornell picked up the save with a five strikeout performance, including the game winning strikeout that was seniors 150th strikeout of the season.
At the plate, in a season where the senior class has played such a key role, it was only fitting that three seniors delivered crucial RBI's for the Lady Chargers including
Abby Baglin, Kristen Wilkinson, and
Jaelyn Estes. Meanwhile, Central freshmen
Maggie Meche (3-3) and
Savanah Tatum (2-3) provided a glimpse of what the future looks like as each played a key role getting on base and providing quality at bats.
First year head coach
Brittany Scarafiotti discussed the pressure the Lady Chargers were under to get a result saying "we couldn't be more proud of our athletes for working hard and fighting back from a little bit of late-season adversity to reach the biggest goal they set this year." Scarafiotti added that "clinching a playoff spot for the first time in over a decade speaks to the determination and buy-in that our athletes poured into the season and one another throughout the off-season, pre-season, and into competition. Every program has its ups and downs, but how we were able to respond with each road bump we hit and finish district play with one of our best games all season shows how resilient this group is."

Central will now face No.1 seed L.D. Bell (22-8-1,12-2) in the Bi-District round of the UIL Playoffs in a best of three game series starting this Thursday. The Blue Raiders surged at the end of the season to claim the tightly contested 3-6A district title with a 12-2 victory in Weatherford before defeating Trinity 1-0 in the season finale in extra innings to claiming the outright district title. Bell are led by senior pitcher Angelina Aguilera, who in her most recent outing pitched an 8-inning, no-hit performance against Trinity. At the plate, freshman catcher Presley Rivers is a key threat for the blue Raiders with 9 home runs on the season in addition to junior Brynn Smith. The Blue Raiders have won their last 14 contents with their last defeat coming in a 8-0 loss to Aubrey March 3rd.
When it comes to common opponents for the Blue Raider and Lady Chargers, the Blue Raiders went 1-0-1 against District 4-6A opponents, tying Fossil Ridge 6-6 in early February before defeating Haltom 5-0 later in the month.
While the Lady Chargers will be making their first post-season appearance in over a decade, the team will undoubtedly bring their
Dog Fight mentality to the table as they look to make even more history, and support from the entire Charger Nation will play a key role. Scarafiotti referenced this saying "we couldn't be more thankful for the endless amount of support we have felt from family, friends, teachers, staff, admin, and the community all season long. Charger Field's stands were always full, loud, and helped us reach this monumental step."
First pitch in game one of the series is schedule for 7:00PM Thursday night on the campus of L.D. Bell. Game two will take place on Charger Field at 7:00PM Friday night with game three, if necessary, schedule for a 12:00PM first pitch on Saturday.
