Ribbon Cutting Ceremony Officially Opens Central Indoor Facility

Fort Worth, TX - Central High Principal Dr. Liz Russo was joined by Keller community members, KISD dignitaries including Charger Feeder pattern superintendent Dr. Kevin Hood and KISD superintendent Dr. Rick Westfall, and Charger student-athletes and coaches for the ribbon cutting ceremony and grand opening of the new Central Indoor Facility earlier today.

Excitement ran through the building as all the possibilities and potential the space could bring to not just Central students, but students throughout the Charger feeder pattern were discussed.

After starting construction in October of 2021, the new Central Indoor Extra-Curricular Facility wrapped up construction at the end of February and is the first of four Indoor extra-curricular practice buildings, one for each of Keller ISD's four comprehensive high schools, to open.  All four of the indoor buildings comes in at a total cost just over $42,000,000. The space includes a 100-yeard turf field, able to support all outdoor extra-curricular program practice needs providing Central athletes with one of the best indoor practice spaces in North Texas. The building also includes four drop down batting cages for softball and baseball and inlays within the turf for soccer, football, softball, and baseball.

The project was completed as a result of Keller ISD's Board of Trustees calling a Bond Election, which voters approved November 2019, that provided $315 million for capital improvement projects while not raising the KISD property tax rate.

Boy's Athletic Coordinator and Head Football coach Mike Sports said "These are exciting times at Central High School.  Just watching the progress in the construction of our indoor, week by week, has been fantastic.  The Charger Indoor is one of the largest facilities of it's kind in the area.  I know this building is going to be utilized by so many groups in our high school and community.  No more canceled workouts because weather issues!"

This was shown first hand the day before the ribbon cutting as soccer, baseball, softball, and track and field all utilized the space due to inclement weather.
