Fort Worth, TX - Keller ISD Director of Athletics Eric Persyn and Central High School Principal Dr. Liz Russo recently made the announcement that Abigail Zipoy has been selected as the next Charger Head Volleyball coach. Zipoy takes over from Lyndsay Baker, who while remaining at Central, made the decision to step away from her coaching responsibilities after five season as the helm.
Over her five seasons as head coach, Baker complied an overall record of 73-117 and led the Chargers through an incredibly successful season this past fall where the program went 28-18, their first winning record since 2016, and just missed out on a postseason birth, going 6-8 in district play.
Coach Zipoy will start working with the Lady Charger program in the coming weeks and expressed her excitement to join Charger Nation saying "It is a true honor and a joy to become a Central Charger. I am extremely grateful for the opportunity to lead such a great volleyball program. I am very excited about being a part of the Charger Nation!"
Zipoy joins the Chargers after spending seven season at L.D. Bell as the assistant coach for the Blue Raiders. During her time in Hurst, Zipoy helped turn around a program that hadn't made the playoffs since 2013 into one that finished no worse than 5th in the district in four of the last five seasons. L.D. Bell advanced to post season play in both 2018 and 2020, and most recently finished with an overall record of 25-19 in 2022, their first winning record since going 21-14 in 2012.
Zipoy is a graduate of Round Rock McNeil High where she was a three-sport athlete, playing on the Maverick Volleyball team while also running for the track and cross country teams. She would go on to play collegiately at Texas Wesleyan University where she was a four year starter for the Rams. After being named to the SAC Honorable Mention list as a sophomore, Zipoy led the team in digs with 411, finished second in aces with 33, and fourth in kills with 206. Her senior season saw Zipoy receive First Team All-SAC honors as well as a spot on the All-South Central Regional team as the Rams went 24-11, finishing third in the SAC Conference.
In addition to her coaching roles at Central, Zipoy also coaches club volleyball for the Fort Worth Fire.
