Granbury, TX - The Charger Volleyball program is off to their third best start in program history after going 8-1 this past weekend at the Granbury Varsity Tournament and claiming the Silver Bracket Championship. Junior
Jaylani Evans led the way for Central and was named to the All-Tournament team.
The Chargers opened tournament play on Thursday with wins over Hereford (4-10), Midland Legacy (10-8), and Azle (8-6) and didn't drop a single game on Saturday defeating Joshua (10-10), Odessa Permian (6-6) , and Fort Worth Paschal (13-7).
Saturday morning opened up with a matchup against defending 5A-District 3 Champions and 2022 Regional Quarterfinalists Amarillo, who came into the contest with a 14-2 record. After claiming the first game 25-21, the Chargers were agonizingly close to claiming the victory before the Sandies fought back to extend the match to a third game with a 26-24 game two victory. Amarillo would claim the third game 25-19, handing the Chargers their first loss of the tournament, and setting up a rematch for the Central against Hereford.
After claiming their second victory over Hereford of the tournament, winning in straight games 25-20 and 25-21, the Chargers would wrap up the tournament picking up a second victory over Joshua while claiming the silver bracket championship.

Next up for the Chargers is a home game against L.D. Bell (8-2). The Chargers and Blue Raiders faced off unofficially to open up their seasons in exhibition play on August 4. The game will carry a little extra meaning for first year head coach Abby Zipoy, as she served as an assistant coach for the Blue Raiders for seven seasons prior to joining Charger Nation this spring. The varsity contest is scheduled for a 6:30 PM start.
