Fort Worth, TX - First year head coach
Abby Zipoy and the Lady Chargers are set to open their 2023 campaign in just over twenty days when they head to North Richland Hills August 8th to take on Birdville. This is the fourth straight season the Lady Chargers open up their season against the Hawks and season openers don't come much tougher than a matchup with the 5A powerhouse who advanced all the way to the UIL Regional Finals in 2022. Birdville hold a 2-1 edge in those season opening matchups, defeating Central in 2020 and 2021 before the Lady Chargers swept the 2022 contest at The Bolt.
Central will feature in three tournaments on three consecutive weekends in August, first making the short trip to Argyle August 10th, before heading to Granbury August 17th and wrapping up the month in Arlington on August 25th.
Volleyball season officially returns to The Bolt with the home opener taking place August 15th against Chisholm Trail. The Lady Chargers defeated the 6A Trail Rangers twice last season, with Central claiming a five set victory (18-25, 23-25, 25-13, 25-21, 15-10) on the road in early August before matching up again just two days later in the Granbury tournament where the Lady Chargers claimed a three set victory (23-25, 25-19, 25-16).
Additionally, the Non-District slate will include L.D. Bell, Richland, Saginaw, Trinity, and Mesquite Horn.
The Lady Chargers will open up district play September 8th when they make the short trip to Fossil Ridge. The Panthers finished fifth, one win out of a playoff spot and one spot above Central. Central will be looking to reach the postseason in the gauntlet that is District Four for the first time since 2016 when the Lady Chargers went 35-10 and advanced to the Area Round of the UIL Playoffs.
